MOLIT Hosts Seminar to Improve Road Safety and Comfort
Discussion on Promoting Porous and Noise-Reducing Pavement, Hosted by MOLIT
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) announced that it will hold a technical seminar in Seoul on August 23 to explore strategies for promoting the use of permeable and low-noise pavement.
The seminar aims to encourage the adoption of pavement solutions that reduce skidding on wet roads and lower ambient noise levels in areas surrounding roadways.
Permeable and low-noise pavement, compared to standard asphalt pavement, offers superior drainage capabilities, enhancing skid resistance and visibility during rainy conditions, thereby helping to prevent traffic accidents.
Additionally, this pavement reduces the noise generated between tires and the road surface. While the application of such pavement has been limited due to challenges in maintenance and increased construction costs, a recent amendment to related laws earlier this year has paved the way for the expanded use of this technology to improve road safety and reduce noise pollution.
During the seminar, participants will analyze the current state of technology and market trends both domestically and internationally.
Discussions will focus on establishing construction and maintenance standards for permeable pavement, with the goal of developing comprehensive technical guidelines.
MOLIT has stated that it will collaborate with relevant organizations and companies to address any technical shortcomings, building on this institutional foundation.
The seminar is expected to pave the way for wider implementation of permeable and low-noise pavement, leading to improved safety and comfort for road users.
